Tips to protect your floor this Christmas.

Merry Christmas Art of Clean

The festive season seems to come around so quickly and panic mode kicks in. I hear you ask, “how do I protect my home from all the stresses of Christmas”.

You may feel like you want to deep clean your home before the family arrive and re-arrange your furniture so you can fit all of the gifts for the kiddies in, but most importantly you want to fit that Christmas tree in somewhere everyone can see it.

I would normally start with cleaning my house top to bottom, especially the soft furnishings and flooring. When these are clean, I really do feel like I’m winning in life.

After this is done, I will then think about moving my furniture around to fit that all-important Christmas tree in because, let’s face it, this is the most important thing at Christmas for our homes.

You may be happy with a simple vacuum around the house, or you might choose to get professional floor cleaners in. Whether you have carpet, stone, wood or even just a rug, Art Clean is a professional cleaning company that specialises in most of your flooring and Upholstery needs.

How can I get a small spillage of wine, coffee, or even gravy from your Christmas dinner out?

  • If you spill some red wine blot up as much of the spill as possible using a clean white cloth, tissue, or paper towel. Next, apply an approved spot remover to a white cloth and blot. Repeat until no more stain transfers to the cloth and repeat the blotting with clean water again to remove any residues. Dry the treated area with a white cloth or paper towel and encourage fast drying.
  • A greasier spillage such as gravy or sauces, scoop up as much of the spill as possible using a blunt knife or spatula. Then blot the remaining spot with a clean white cloth, tissue or paper towel.  Apply an approved spot remover to a white cloth and blot. Repeat until no more stain transfers to the cloth then repeat the blotting with clean water again to remove any residues. Dry the treated area with a white cloth, tissue or paper towel and encourage fast drying again.
  • One thing that you will want to protect is your flooring from the mess a Christmas tree will create. First things first are the pesky pine needles, if you can cover as much of the carpet or hard flooring underneath the Christmas tree with a mat or covering of some kind, this will half the vacuuming time when you remove the tree after Christmas and protect the floor.
  • Tree sap is also a problem, this is very sticky to touch. If you do get tree sap on your carpet you need to use a substance called alcohol, you may want to do a small patch test on another area of the carpet less visible to ensure the alcohol doesn’t react to your carpet and damage it. When you are happy this will not cause damage to your flooring, using a clean undyed cloth dab the alcohol onto the sap.  This will harden the sap to make it possible to scrape away.

When removing tree sap from a hard floor we recommend you use a water-based floor cleaner, this will ensure you do not strip the floor of any oil or Lacquer.
