Leaking radiator water on your Carpet

It is important to keep a check on your radiators during the winter months, we recently had a client contact us regarding a radiator leaking on their carpet

The leak was near the flow valve, this can mean the seal is worn. The seals on radiators seals can become dried out and cracked over time.

The water that comes from a radiator usually is very old and will stain the carpet, so it must be stopped as soon as possible. You could run the risk of spoiling your carpet for good and will end up being a considerable cost to replace. The Quicker you notice it, the easier it will be for a professional Carpet Cleaner to treat the stain.

If you decide to try to treat the stain yourself first, then Art of Clean recommends you use the right carpet spot cleaning solution can help with removing the stain, these are usually a neutral based cleaner.

A small amount of water is quite easily removed by dabbing the area with a clean white cloth. However, if the leak went unnoticed for a while, you may have a larger patch of water that will have soaked down to the under layer.

Carpets left wet for too long are at risk of

  • Rot
  • Nasty smells
  • Shrinkage if you have a wool Carpet.

You could try using a Carpet Cleaner to clean the carpet, but you might find these are not powerful enough to clean the carpet. Using a professional carpet cleaner with a heavy-duty truck-mounted system will have a much better chance of cleaning the dirty water stain this method will also be able to draw much of the moisture up from the Carpet fibres.

It is not always guaranteed that the stain will completely be removed no matter how hard you try to clean the area, water stains can be some of the most stubborn stains to be removed believe it or not.

Always use extra air dryers once the area has been cleaned, this will also help to dry the area quicker and give your carpet the best chance from being at any of the risks.
